The International Resource Journal: E.V.Z. Limited E.V.Z. Limited ================================================================================ admin on 17 December, 2009 07:03:00 An all-encompassing, well-consolidated engineering services company E.V.Z. Limited (formerly Envirozel), of Melbourne, Australia, is an emerging industrial group with a portfolio of specialist businesses operating in the engineering services industry. The story of the E.V.Z. group of companies as we know it today originates from Syfon Systems; an Australian company founded in 1992 by Andrew Powis, now CEO for E.V.Z. Powis created Syfon Systems after coming across a product called syfonic roof drainage. This is a high-rainfall roof drainage product specifically suited to the precipitous Australian, New Zealand and Asian climates. Syfon Systems was eventually sold to E.V.Z. in 2004. At this time, E.V.Z. was originally known as Zeolite Australia Limited, which mined and marketed a product called Zeolite. Zeolite is a product dug out from the ground and its properties are useful in water treatment and soil conditioning. Zeolite Australia Limited negotiated with an Australian government organization to research and develop the rights to a water treatment process. Syfon Systems came across these negotiations and offered to build the necessary equipment for the process to be complete. This process marked the tentative beginnings of the acquisitions process which has allowed E.V.Z. to grow and develop into the multi-faceted, diverse group it is today. The E.V.Z. acquisition story In June 2004, Zeolite Australia acquired Syfon Systems and changed its now merged name to Envirozel Limited, marking both the acquisition itself and the changing face of the merged company. In November 2004, E.V.Z. halted the zeolite business. Even though it wasn’t necessarily planned, the company then became somewhat of a backdoor listing for Syfon Systems and the E.V.Z. acquisition story began. The company acquired Brockman Engineering in April 2006, the Danum Engineering in January 2007, the National Engineering business in May 2007, and the T.S.F. Engineering business in September 2007. E.V.Z. quickly became the result of an accelerated process of acquisitions. When the recent global financial crisis hit, the company focused its efforts on consolidating its offer, its identity and its purpose. Today, the company has a strong emphasis on organic growth and is always looking to conduct further acquisitions by extending its client services and geographic bases. E.V.Z. envisages itself as a specialist engineering services provider and, to that end, each business has a great skills base of its own. Syfon Systems is the leading syfonic roof drainage company in the country. It has about 60 to 70 per cent of all projects available in the country. Brockman Engineering is one of about three organisations in the country doing very large steel storage tanks. Danum Engineering offers unrivalled expertise in plant shutdown projects. National Engineering completed the famed Australian Olympic Stadium. The company worked on all of the structural steel for the mega structure, exemplifying the company’s expert skills base in large scale complex projects. T.S.F. Engineering’s main skill base is back-up power and emergency power for things like telephone exchanges or data centres or hospitals. E.V.Z.’s effort to consolidate these companies has resulted in more than separate market-leading entities. Today, as one, each piece of this puzzle proves more capable than ever. Consolidation, people power and the wake of the G.F.C. E.V.Z.’s focus on consolidation has resulted in the creation of three divisions within the group. The first encompasses the Brockman, Danum and National Engineering groups and the common theme is steel and large projects for various developments. The second, E.V.Z. Power, is primarily T.S.F. Engineering, but offers a very specialized avenue for appropriate acquisitions in the future. The third division is E.V.Z. Water which comprises of Syfon Systems. E.V.Z.’s efforts in terms of people power are exemplary. The company’s workforce averages around 350 staff, all of whom are qualified and skilled trades people. That workforce is backed by engineering and design teams and fabrication facilities in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. The company has also created a business development manager network which gives them a new competitive edge by focusing specifically on the resource sector. One project which exemplifies this latest focus is the Ginkgo mine in South Australia, where they have built a large conveyor. The Ginkgo Mine in Australia’s Murray Basin is operated by Bemax Resources Limited, of Queensland, Australia. E.V.Z.’s involvement is the construction of a large 1.7 kilometre conveyor system for a sand mining operation. E.V.Z. has a lot to be proud of in terms of their significant projects and safe work practices. To date, the company can boast safe and timely projects—always looking out for its staff. E.V.Z. today When you look back at Syfon Systems’ ability to deliver on the water rights research and development project back at the beginning of E.V.Z., it is clear that this trend of matching skills, meeting project demand and continuing to add strings to the company bow has been an ongoing factor in the sustained growth of the company. Today, this shows no signs of slowing. The company is planning to focus on the Australian calcite gas play and look at new opportunities within that sector. The most important aspect of business for E.V.Z. moving forward is the company’s ability to maintain its market share and continue to grow into the New Year. The company currently expects revenue growth between 10 and 15 per cent this coming year, during which time E.V.Z.’s sights are set on rebranding to E.V.Z. Limited, shedding the former name, ‘Envirozel,’ in the company’s latest renaming as it embarks upon its resource-focused strategy. E.V.Z. covers every base, continues to consolidate its companies and in doing so, grow and improve upon their individual successes of the past. The plans for organic and acquisition growth looks set to serve this engineering services company very well over the coming year.
