SICIM

Leaders in pipeline construction since 1962
SICIM, a pioneering pipeline installation company, has serviced ancillary facilities forthe transmission and distribution of oil, gas and water since 1962. The company uses local specialists whose knowledge of HSE requirements proves invaluable in various locations throughout the world. A handful of these locations includes Europe (Italy, France, Spain, Ireland,Germany and UK), Asia (Kazakhstan), Africa (Libya and South Africa) and North America (Canada). In these regions, SICIM has already installed over 7,000 kilometres of pipelines and 20,000 tonnes of steel facilities.

With a solid audited quality system adopted in 1995, SICIM has seen as an ongoing development within the company. While standards are in place, they can always be improved upon and tailored to further meet the specific and sometimes challenging standards of SICIM’s clients. This company has not incepted Quality Systems and then left them to collect dust, but instead continues to pay great attention to them—thus continually improving and always staying ahead of the game. “In the view to seeking continuous improvement, SICIM intends on developing QMS by integrating with the HSE Management System,” the company states.

At SICIM, the integration of quality assurance with the highest regard for health and safety is seen as an excellent way to grow and develop the company, not merely as a necessary legal obligation. It is this culture of escalating and exceeding expectation that has allowed the company such astounding development.

With such attention paid to HSE standards and incorporating these with the Quality System, it is not difficult to see why SICIM’s staff-centric best practise measures have served the company well. This is mirrored by the great number of projects that the company has completed in the past ten years, including:

- Construction of Curraleigh West to Midleton Gas Pipeline for BORD GAIS EIREANN in Ireland, 2009; costing € 19,500,000

- The Corrib Project Onshore Gas Terminal CMC including providing of welding, installation and inspection services to the D-1002 Slug Catcher for Shell E&P Ireland Limited in Ireland, 2008-2009; costing € 1,600,000

- The Contract 01962 - SGP Sulphur Plant involving various construction services for Parsons Fluor Daniel International LLC (PFD) in Kazakhstan, 2006-2008; costing € 78,300,000

“The experience gained as result of operating for the most important international oil and gas companies in all types of logistic, climatic and environmental conditions, has allowed SICIM to continuously modify and perfect all the relevant operating procedures and adapt them to the specific technical and contractual requirements,” the company states.

SICIM offers the best range of solutions and the right approach to all types of construction problems.”

Health and safety is key to success

With such a varied breadth of services, SICIM takes pride in its health and safety standards. First up are the codes and standards of health and safety executive which are followed to the letter. SICIM’S Occupational Health and Safety Management System is certified according to BS OHSAS 18001:2007 by Moody International as of 2009. The company always works to adhere to projects’ local laws and regulations whilst working in accordance with clients’ requirements. In other words, protecting the health and safety of workers and safeguarding the environment are always an absolute must. “SICIM is convinced that HSE is not a goal to reach but it is an essential prerequisite of the company’s operations,” the company says.

Pipeline project excellence

To date, SICIM owns 126 pipe-layers of different size and capacity, well over 120 pay-welders, 58 excavators, 28 pipe-bending machines to cover up to 60” pipes and 28 cranes (only to mention a few). Of course, one component—the most vital piece of equipment of all—is the SICIM team executing these projects.
“Management believes that the key to achieve the best performances and guarantee the satisfaction of its clients is a well-trained and motivated workforce,” the company says.

Looking into the future

Today, the company continues to work on these large scale international projects, such as the Kashagan Experimental Programme Project. In this current project, SICIM provides construction of the underground piping system in the gas, sulphur and slug catcher areas of the main plant; a project worth $160,000,000. There is also the Fernleitung OPAL von Lubmin nach Olbernhau for WINGAS Gmbh in Germany; another large project costing €106,600,000.
As SICIM moves forward, the company will continues to expand into new international markets, to deliver excellent quality standards and place the people that make projects happen in the centre of every equation. SICIM is truly setting the standard and showing the way forward for the pipeline services and installation providers of the oil, gas and water industries.
