The company has been operating since November 2001 and is led by founder and Chief Executive Officer James Mwangi. A mechanical engineer by trade, Mwangi has nearly 25 years experience in the oil and gas industry in Kenya and overseas. Since opening Kurrent Technologies, Mwangi and his executive team have expanded operations into other areas within the energy sector, such as liquefied natural gas, compressed natural gas and renewable energy such as wind, as well as participation in the enhancement of the legal and regulatory framework in the East African region.

Mwangi’s right-hand man on the executive team is Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Gandhi, a civil, structural and environmental engineer who has practiced in the oil and gas industry since 1990.  A graduate of the University of London, he earned a BSc (Eng) Hons. Degree.

Several substantial engineering projects include: the replacement of 450km of the multi-products White Oil Pipeline; a 16,000-tonne LPG import, storage and distribution terminal in Mombasa; a petroleum depot and strategic storage in Konza; a feasibility study for inland bulk LPG storage and bottling facilities throughout Kenya; and rolling out a master plan for an oil terminal in Nairobi.

Some top health, safety and environmental (HSE) projects include: HSE audits for a multinational oil company in Kenya; extension of a silos and food processing facility in Mombasa; remodeling a petroleum station in Jomvu, Mombasa; a proposed bulk petroleum terminal and strategic storage in Nairobi; and a 100MW wind power project in Kajiado, Kenya.
