Oilflow
Oilflow works to better the independent oil industry
Suppliers of automotive and industrial grease
When Johnnie Grobbelaar started the company Oilflow over 10 years ago, he hadn’t imagined what he would achieve. His primary goal was to create a sustainable business that would provide lubricants to the variety of businesses in need. That goal was reached early on. But from that grew a passion within Grobbelaar for his business and the larger industry. This all culminated in Grobbelaar’s integral participation in creating an alliance of independent lubricators for the betterment of his field.
“We are oil blenders. We as independent oil blenders can’t import our own base oils, because of volume and storage facilities, so we have to buy base oil from majors (such as BP, Shell etc.),” says Grobbelaar. “We buy additives and then we blend to whatever spec we need, be it hydraulic oil, industrial oil, crane case oil, and that is what we do, and we manufacture basically the entire automotive range and the industrial range of lubricants.”
Oilflow was established in February 1997 and operates within the automotive industrial lubricants market segment and mining sectors with a total range of greases. Based in Wadeville, Germiston, the company warehouses and distributes products throughout the country. Oilflow has experienced exponential success by maintaining a diligent focus on service to its customers that the major oil companies cannot compete with. Oilflow service is professional and personal, and emphasises quick deliveries and stock availability.
Oilflow supports nearly every industry in South Africa and Southern Africa, providing lubricants to spare shops, engineering shops, transporters, farmers, mines, “wherever lubricants can be used,” says Grobbelaar. All products are blended to API specification with virgin base oils which are obtained from SABS ISO 9002 rated suppliers.
All additives used in the blending process for the various Oilflow products are obtained from the world’s most reputable and leading international additive manufacturers, which has the latest world technology available to it, thus the ability to produce any product in the various specification category required.
All fleetline products are guaranteed provided that all the correct classification and specifications of product are used as per the various equipment and lubrication manufacturers’ recommendations.
Having expanded year after year, the Oilflow philosophy is to be big enough to service the variety of needs of a customer, and small enough to do so with a personalised approach. “We always want to give the best service possible, and that shows in our service and our product. Doing so has resulted in the good fortune of having a lot of business that comes to us. We get calls from all over to say they have seen or heard of our product and want to work with us. We believe that we can offer the services of experienced, highly skilled and professional team who go the extra mile for the customer,” says Grobbelaar.
Grobbelaar credits his experienced and qualified team of agents, whose dedicated work of traveling to the clients has created a strong and viable foundation for Oilflow. Agents—there are 8 who work for Oilflow—each have their own specialty region where they are familiar with the needs and conditions of the local industries. Grobbelaar himself and the agents have been visiting with clients for over 16 years now, so the Oilflow names is recognized and trusted, and there is a reciprocal respect between both parties.
International standards
What makes Oilflow products so trusted and reliable? It is the adherence to the international specifications that is never wavering. For years, clients knew they could go to Oilflows to get the exact lubricants needed and not have to worry about corners being cut. And for years, this was not a something that could be universally reliable upon within the industry. Until Grobbelaar and some of his peers decided to take action and improve the independent oil blender profession.
“When I started my career, I did not think I would make such an impact,” says Grobbelaar.
The ILBA, or the Independent Lubricant Blender Association, of which Grobbelaar is a Director, was founded in the absence of a unifying body that represents the needs and concerns of independent oil blenders. The ILBA stamp gives clients peace of mind that the product they are purchasing meets the most stringent standards. In an industry where smaller companies do not have the brand recognition of the majors, this is a way to get the client information that guides their decisions.
“The reason for forming the ILBA is that we as members have to adhere to international standards. We have a company contracted to us which is an independent oil analysis company and they at any given moment (yesterday morning, sent chemists) and they check that drum, that case, thwpale and they draw samples. That is purely to see that our product is always up to standard,” says Grobbelaar.
Labour of love
Having devoted time and passion into creating a business that helps grease the wheels of SA business, Grobbelaar has, in Oilflow, created a company that is second to none.
