The International Resource Journal: U.S. predicted a sharp rise in natural gas production U.S. predicted a sharp rise in natural gas production ================================================================================ Nuala Gallagher on 24 January, 2012 08:24:00 IRJ – January 24 – The Energy Information Administration has predicted that U.S. natural gas production could potentially triple by 2035. According to a new report, the 5 million cubic feet of gas produced in 2010 accounted for 23 per cent of the total global dry gas production. The report predicts that by 2035, gas production could account for 49 per cent of the global total, hitting as much as 13.6 trillion cubic feet. As foreign markets increase and higher prices are introduced, the report also suggested that the U.S. would be a gas exporter by 2021 and that use of gas-generated electricity would rise from 24 to 27 per cent. The Marcellus shale field reserves, with main deposits in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New York, were expected to reduce in size, the report estimated, from 410 trillion cubic feet to 141 trillion cubic feet.
