The International Resource Journal: South Sudan official says Total to start oil exploration South Sudan official says Total to start oil exploration ================================================================================ Nuala Gallagher on 31 January, 2012 07:35:00 IRJ – January 31 – France’s Total SA plans to commence oil exploration at the concession held by the energy multinational in Jonglei, South Sudan, according to the nation’s chief negotiator, Tuesday. Speaking to reporters in Juba, Pagan Amum stated that the company has “already committed” to this activity and alluded that the firm may have pledged to go ahead with exploration as early as this month. The concession in question is Block B, in which Total has a 32.5 per cent stake, situated on the South Sudanese border with Ethiopia. Total was yet to comment on Amum's update at time of press. Newly independent South Sudan, which gained independence in July, reportedly houses around three quarters of the approximate 490,000 barrels previously produced when it was one with the north of the formerly united country. https://twitter.com/IRJmagazine
