Australian mining companies urged to fight over tax

IRJ Sep 9 - Norman Moore, The Mines Minister called Australia’s mining industry to keep fighting against the mining tax.

"This has the potential to have a very serious impact on Western Australia's economy," Moore said to press. "I mean we saw what happened with the mach one version of the mining tax and we saw the effect that that had on the stock market and on Australia's ratings internationally."

Moore believes the tax could have detrimental implications for the Australian economy and urges companies to impress the Federal Government how the tax could affect the mining industry and the Australian economy.

"We'll be encouraging the mining industry to keep up the battle that it fought so well prior to the election and we hope that they will be with us and we will be there with them to put so much pressure on the Government that they will back off on the tax."
