BHP Biliton and ArcelorMittal ends joint venture discussions

IRJ Sep 9 - Mining company, BHP Biliton and ArcelorMittal, steel makers have ended discussion about a joint iron-ore venture in West Africa.

This past January the companies announced a joint investigation of their iron-ore assets in Liberia and Guinea. However, the companies released statements stating they were unable to reach a commercial agreement during these discussions.

,” BHPB said to press, “BHP Billiton and ArcelorMittal will continue their iron-ore interests in west Africa independently and work closely with governments and their communities.”

While ArcelorMittal will continue to progress with their iron-ore assets. They said to press, “ArcelorMittal will continue to develop its operations and iron-ore interests in Liberia independently and is excited by the potential of this business.”
