Further potential for rebates and mineralisation-specifics for AUS new mining tax? Possibly
IRJ July 5 - Today in a meeting over in Sydney, Australia, top of the agenda was the potential for further tax breaks for iron ore miners as the government and industry alike flesh out the terms of the brand new 30 per cent coal/iron ore mining tax. The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia has hinted that further concessions could be on the cards.
Reg Howard-Smith, Chief Exec of the Chambers spoke to Reuters news service about the potential for further modifications to the tax saying, “The minister indicated these issues would be included in the terms of reference." He was, in this, referring to Martin Ferguson, Federal Resources Minister, who has received requests for honing tax rebates and excluding the magnetite miners from the new tax.
