June trade surplus for China

IRJ July 12 - A June trade surplus in China topped expectations greatly, while such a surprising number of exports suggests the economic recovery remains on track despite a recent slowdown.

June exports in China rose 43.9 per cent from a year earlier, while forecasters projected a 38 per cent increase. Imports rose 34.1 per cent over last year, on par with forecaster projections.

"Exports were better than expected because the negative impact from the European debt crisis was not as serious as the market had feared," said Liu Nenghua, an Economist with Bank of Communications in Shanghai.
