Total JV announces oil find in offshore Nigeria

IRJ – November 7 – French oil giant Total has hit oil at its Etisong North-1 oil well in offshore Nigeria, Total E&P Nigeria Ltd. reports, Monday.

According to the local subsidiary, one of three reservoirs within Block 102 has returned testing of 8,500 barrels per day of 40° API oil. The Block is a joint venture between Total (40 per cent) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (60 per cent).

Marc Blaizot, Total’s senior vice president of exploration said: “On one hand, our strategy is to strengthen exploration near our production hubs in the conventional offshore to maintain our production levels.

“On the other hand, we will also amplify deep offshore exploration on riskier prospects of large size around the Akpo and Usan field to grow our reserves.”

The find marks the second discovery made within the block, which is located approximately 65 kilometres off the southeastern coast, 15 kilometres from the Ofon field also operated by the partner companies. Last year Total averaged around 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in Nigeria.
