The International Resource Journal: Unemployment falling while part-time on the rise Unemployment falling while part-time on the rise ================================================================================ Resource News on 14 July, 2010 08:54:00 IRJ July 14 - According to reports, a record number of U.K. citizens are working part-time, roles that have been utilized rather than jobs being completely eliminated. Other reports indicate that the recession may be over but its effects will be felt for some time. “The increase in part-time workers could well be evidence that many companies are needing to add to their staff but are reluctant to take on full-time workers given the still uncertain outlook,” said Howard Archer, Chief U.K. Economist at IHS Global Insight. Part-time workers rose 148,000 in the last quarter to almost eight million, the highest numbers recorded since 1992. The current unemployment rate has dipped to 7.8 per cent, the lowest total since March 2009.
